Multi-shaped Glass Beads from Pakistan in blue and green hues

$26.83

These beautiful multi-shaped glass beads are sold in Pakistan, however, they are said to be manufactured in Afghanistan.

They are said to have been made from the shards of Roman Glass scattered along the Silk Road trade routes, and so are referred to as Roman Glass. The beads themselves are modern. Their abundance in the marketplace casts doubt on whether they are truly made of ancient glass, and as a result, the common "Roman Glass" name for these beads is not accurate. But the beads are certainly beautiful in shape and color and make perfect accents in jewelry design. They are also priced to be highly affordable.

The beads range from 5 to 15 mm (with an average size of about 8mm). Their color varies, but primarily the beads are in blue and green hues, with some brown, yellow, and white added. Some beads are covered with a patina consistent with their stated origin. There are about 35-40 beads not including the tiny blue glass spacers. The beads are diamond-shaped, barrel-shaped, nugget-shaped, and occasionally tabular. These are small beads, please note the size and also see the scale photos. There is a significant variability among strands - see the photos, where several strands are shown side-by-side to underscore variability. If you have a preference for larger or smaller beads, please indicate so when purchasing in a note on your order, and we will select the best available based on your preference.

Please see the scale photo for more details.

Weights and sizes are approximate.

COLORS: Our photos are taken in different lighting in an attempt to show how beads look in different lighting conditions. We make every effort to show colors as accurately as possible. The white background photos are taken in daylight conditions. The black background photos are taken in the strong lab light, and would be representative of what they would look like in the evening electric light. Some of the photos are backlit to emphasize their translucency. Note that monitor settings strongly affect the way the colors look. What you see on your monitor may differ from what you see with a naked eye depending on your monitor settings.
