Old Serpentine Beads from West Africa
These 6 dark green Serpentine come from Mauritania. These are antique beads dating to the late 1800 - early 1900s.
The beads are in excellent shape. However, as appropriate for the age, some nicks and chips may be present. Please see the photos for the detail. They are made in the style of ancient serpentine beads (see our Ancient Stone Beads listings for the ancient varieties; the way to tell the difference is to look at the holes). Serpentine has been highly prized in West Africa since antiquity, so much so that it is sold by weight.
