A Long Strand of Ancient and Antique Serpentine Beads (0355)
This long strand of dark green serpentine comes from West Africa. The beads are a mix of ancient and antique. Although their exact age is unknown, most are believed to be over 1000 years old, with a few antique beads mixed in.
There are 56 beads of very different sizes and shapes. The largest bead is about 38x32mm. Some of the beads are oval, some bicone, some disk-shape, some almost round. An excellent playing field for a designer.
The strand is 37" including raffia, about 30 inches of beads.
Some of the beads have nicks and chips consistent with age. Please see the photos for the detail.
