Large Old European Wound Beads in Blue and White, African trade CRBM_10183_C

$230.00

A group of 15 old European large wound beas in white and blue.  The beads date to the late 1700s through the 1800s.  Beautiful patina. These beads are sometimes referred to as Dutch Dogon, as they were traded to the Dogon people of Mali by the Dutch traders,  however, their exact origin is unknown, and could be Bohemia or German. The white beads are sometimes referred to as Moon beads, although these particular beads are not strongly opalescent.

One blue bead is oval, 27x20mm, the rest are round or barrel-shaped, in milk white, and various shades of blue, and graduate from about 22x20mm to 15x10mm.  The holes range from 3 to 6mm.

The strand is about 11" without stringing.

Weights and sizes are approximate.

These are old beads, mostly in good antique condition,  but they are expected to have age-appropriate wear such as discoloration, chips, dents, scratches, etc. Please examine the photos carefully.

COLORS: Our photos are taken in different lighting in an attempt to show how beads look in different lighting conditions. We make every effort to show colors as accurately as possible. The white background photos are taken in daylight conditions. The black background photos are taken in the strong lab light and would be representative of what they would look like in the evening electric light. Some of the photos are backlit to emphasize their translucency. Note that monitor settings strongly affect the way the colors look. What you see on your monitor may differ from what you see with the naked eye depending on your monitor settings.
